Is Cleanliness symbol of a civilized society?

India is developing at a very fast rate even in the period of economic recession. Noida is a very well planned city with wide roads and parks, high rising building and malls. We don’t see much awareness for cleanliness among the mass. We talk about big issues, but we are not able to provide enough dustbins to live in a clean, green city. We see littering allover the park, dams, on the roadsides and sometimes around our homes. Lack of garbage boxes and civic sense, both work hand in hand to do the worst. Parks are the best places for picnic and fun. Dimna dam at Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Gandhimaidan at Patna(Bihar)are some of the worst example of mess. We don’t see dustbins nearby to throw the waste. Lot of money is invested on Greenery, terrain and fountain, but why do we save some on the most important tool for cleanliness, dustbins. It saves extra time, labor and money on cleaning. It adds to the quality of the place.
It’s our first priority to clean around the area we live in . We are used to the mess, but we can avoid it with some effort of putting a dustbin on the right place. It is a symbol of civilised society and we can touch the top.
One more big problem is that we use roadsides as toilet and this makes a place, stinking. It can be avoided if the direction for the toilets is given on the same place. Providing restrooms near these places can do a lot better. Toilets can be used with all amenities and supervisor, who could tell how to use it properly. Everyone wants cleanliness except some , so we can expect 90 % result.
It’s not only the condition of small cities, but big cities too.
We just cry about clean Yamuna river but are we really doing something about it. Cleaning is symbolic. Garbage is symbolic. I hope the river is not. Where is the real action to get the work done? We can get right examples from our villages. They drain their home sewage in the fields and it dries and increase the fertility of the land. Why can’t we do the same thing in the big cities? Why do we curse the river and for what? Why do we need issues just like political parties? They need issues and they don’t want to resolve it as there will be no issue for them. Why non-governmental organizations have to do such things, when they really want to make a change. At least they should believe in action, then only we can expect bright India for a bright future.
Media can also help in the collaboration. Media is also trying to copy these politicians. They don’t have issues to be discussed on the television. They make money out of these issues. If media and NGO are corrupt, then where will we look for a ray of hope? Where will we get great politicians to guide our country? Where will we find justice?
